Cultural precinct ‘In the Hanging Garden’ reopens with refreshed look and feel

20 December 2019

After burning brightly during Dark Mofo, Riverlee is excited to celebrate the official relaunch of Hobart’s culturally activated mixed-use precinct, ‘In The Hanging Garden’.

Designed by Fender Katsalidis in collaboration with DarkLab and Six Degrees, the outdoor space has reopened after four months of reconstruction with a refreshed look and feel.

With a vision to deliver a cultural hub for the City of Hobart, the new-look 800 capacity beer garden and dining space will welcome mouth-watering Malaysian bites from Oryzakc and Basque-inspired snacks served up by Spanish specialists, La Sardina Loca. Behind the bar you will find an extensive range of the islands best wines and a cocktail offering exclusive to In the Hanging Garden.

Fast becoming the must-visit venue in Hobart this summer, the newly erected outdoor “Cathedral” space will be the biggest and best way to worship the weekend ahead with ‘Good Fridays’, a summer series that will bring a lineup of the countries best DJ’s through the door each week.

Deliberately temporary in nature, In The Hanging Garden is being designed with the notion that culture cannot be built, but rather created over time by people. The structures are uniquely designed to be relocated elsewhere in the precinct, keeping the uses flexible; ensuring authenticity and culture remains.

It can therefore be expected that the ever-changing site will play host to many exciting pop-up events, markets and food truck festivals over the summer period.
