Seafarers plays host to eco-friendly miniature Christmas tree pop up

20 December 2019

Off the back of the beautiful tulip display by sustainable designer and eco-warrior Joost Bakker, Seafarers — which had remained dormant for decades — was brought to life again this December.

To celebrate the fast-approaching festive season, Seafarers played host to an exciting eco-friendly event where for three days only, miniature Christmas trees popped up along the banks of the Yarra River, providing city dwellers, workers and visitors alike, the opportunity to purchase a sustainable alternative to artificial Christmas trees this holiday season.

Kicking off the activation, famed coffee roastery St Ali popped by to cure the Sunday morning coffee cravings, while a wreath-making workshop hosted by The Plant Society took place under sunny skies, providing the perfect opportunity to create an eco-friendly festive masterpiece to take home or gift to a loved one.

Forming part of the City of Melbourne’s inaugural Christmas Collective initiative, the three-day Seafarers Christmas Pop Up gave an exciting glimpse of what’s to come, with the Seafarers precinct to transform into a thriving eco-tourism hub, home to over 3,500sqm of public waterfront parkland.
