1 Hotels to make its Australian debut at Seafarers

28 August 2019

With a vision to create a sustainable, beautiful and inspiring hotel experience, it’s only fitting that 1 Hotels will call Seafarers home. Making its Australian debut at Riverlee’s luxurious mixed-use development, located on the banks of the Yarra River, the luxury-lifestyle hotel is renowned for conscious design and sustainable architecture.

Founded by hotel visionary Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group, who developed St. Regis from one hotel into a global brand and founded W Hotels, 1 Hotels has a sole focus and that is, to use what is natural from the earth to connect guests with nature in its simplest form.

Nature is intertwined into everything at 1 Hotels. It is intrinsic to the design of the buildings, layouts, culture, and service. Nature informs the way our guests arrive, depart, sleep, eat, relax and interact with one another, our staff, and the surrounding locale.

1 Hotels aspires to be a platform to spark conversations, between innovators and guests, that transform the industry and the world around us.

“I want to capture the beauty of nature in a hotel and commit to safeguarding it as best I can, a responsibility that I believe we all share. It’s 1 world,” says Barry Sternlicht.

A major point of difference is how each hotel honours its locality; incorporating accents of the city, adapting to surroundings and integrating to impressive locales faultlessly. From floor-to-ceiling driftwood pillars at 1 Hotel South Beach in Miami, to historical waterfront references at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, these developments are ever-inspired by their habitats.

1 Hotel Melbourne will be no different.

Designed by a local Melbourne-based firm in collaboration with 1 Hotels design team, 1 Hotel Melbourne will encapsulate a luxurious, yet natural feel. Using recycled materials including the salvaged timber from the wharf restoration works, as well as native greenery and industrial steel, the design will be sympathetic to the history of the site and will offer guests a local experience.

Situated on the south-western edge of the Melbourne CBD on one of the last remaining waterfront sites on the Yarra River, the hotel will provide breathtaking views of the river and the Melbourne CBD and will be the only hotel in Melbourne CBD to be serviced by a 3,500sqm public park.

1 Hotels is not a brand, it is a platform for change built off a simple idea: the world around us is beautiful and we want to keep it that way.

1 Hotel Melbourne will open in 2024.
