This is the first Australian property for 1 Hotels, a brand renowned for its regenerative hospitality model and nature-led design. With 277 guest rooms and 114 luxury branded residences, the hotel draws inspiration from Victoria’s dramatic natural landscapes and connects to an expansive riverside, maritime-inspired park, Seafarers Rest. Its reclaimed materials—salvaged bluestone, wharf timbers and even railway sleepers—tell the story of this land, while more than 2,000 carefully restored heritage items and over 7,000 plants invite nature into every corner of the experience.
What sets this hotel apart is not only its approach to sustainability-driven luxury, but its integration of premium amenities and thoughtfully curated experiences that set a new benchmark for Melbourne. A large-scale wellness offering includes Australia’s first Bamford Wellness Spa, an indoor vitality pool, sauna, steam room, and a fully equipped fitness centre with expansive views across Seafarers Rest Park and the Melbourne CBD.
Anchoring the hotel is the reimagined Goods Shed No.5, once a vital part of Melbourne’s shipping trade and now home to the hotel’s hospitality venues. These include From Here by Mike, the debut hotel restaurant by chef Mike McEnearney, known for his low-waste, hyper-local cooking. Designed by One Design Office, each hotel room features floor-to-ceiling windows framing sweeping views of either the Yarra River or Melbourne’s skyline, operable windows that invite fresh air, and interiors grounded in natural textures, locally sourced linens, and reclaimed materials—creating a guest experience deeply connected to its surroundings.
The headboards of each hotel room bed are crafted from reclaimed railway sleepers, while room numbers carved from subaquatic timber are adorned with live moss. Bathrooms feature rain showers with organic Bamford Wellness Spa amenities.
The hotel interiors were thoughtfully designed by One Design Office in collaboration with Starwood Hotels, drawing on biophilic principles and circular design philosophies. The design narrative is further brought to life through Regeneration: The Art of Renewal—a five-piece art program curated exclusively for the hotel, featuring commissioned works by leading Australian and First Nations artists that explore the theme of renewal and connection to the natural world.
Designed as a sustainable sanctuary, the integration of smart technology supports energy and water efficiency alongside a zero-waste approach to operations. The hotel is committed to eliminating single-use plastic and invites guests to contribute to its 1 Less Thing initiative by donating an item to charity at the end of their stay.
The hotel also introduces over 1,200sqm of thoughtfully designed events and meeting spaces to accommodate 10 – 940 people.
