Celebrating 30+ years of Riverlee: A family business built on vision and values

22 August 2025

In August, Riverlee celebrated three extraordinary decades of business at 1 Hotel Melbourne, surrounded by the collaborators and friends who have shaped our journey.

From Clement Lee’s first residential project on Melbourne’s Flinders Street in 1993, Riverlee has grown into a family business defined by more than buildings. This milestone was a chance to reflect and thank those who have supported us along the way.

It was only fitting to celebrate at the recently opened 1 Hotel Melbourne – a proud culmination of over 30 years in property. The project embodies everything Riverlee stands for: detailed design, craftsmanship, the challenge of urban renewal, and above all, a deep respect for people and place.

We were proud to be joined by Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Nicholas Reece, who delivered the opening speech, followed by reflections from Clement, David and Kevin Lee, and long-time business partner Tan Sri Azmi, all guided by MC Kristine Lee Pratt. Together, they shared stories that brought to life the last three decades of Riverlee – years of challenge, transformation and achievement.

Partnerships have always been at the heart of Riverlee. Looking around the room, it was clear that our story is not just about projects, but about relationships, with partners who have become lifelong friends, and collaborators who share our values of design excellence, respect for place and community.

As David Lee described, “what we do here has always been about something bigger than buildings or profit. Something meaningful. Over the past three decades, that vision has taken us beyond property into early learning, co-working, lifestyle and hospitality, always anchored by our commitment to creating places where communities thrive.”

As we reflect on 30 years of transformation, we are energised for the future. From Seafarers to the next wave of projects, we remain committed to what we love most – transforming overlooked spaces into places where people belong.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of our story so far, and we look forward to the next chapters!
