Making a difference: Riverlee’s commitment to sustainability

20 February 2025

In an era where environmental responsibility is paramount, Riverlee demonstrates its dedication to sustainability, proving that excellence in property ownership and development, and environmental stewardship can flourish together. Our recent accomplishments underscore a commitment to creating lasting, positive change in the communities we create.

A landmark achievement in our sustainability journey has been securing Carbon Neutral certification through Climate Active for our business operations. This certification recognises efforts to offset operational carbon emissions and minimise our environmental footprint.

More generally, we’re also implementing a comprehensive sustainability strategy across all our building assets, with quarterly monitoring and management of performance ensuring consistent progress toward our environmental goals. This strategy, in part, contributes to achieving a 5% annual emissions reduction target across our large, fixed building assets.

Riverlee’s New Epping exemplifies our innovative approach to sustainable development. This transformative project has earned a prestigious 6-Star Green Star Community Rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, recognising developments that demonstrate world-leading environmental, social, and community value. New Epping showcases the ability to reimagine and regenerate sites, turning a former quarry and landfill site into what will become a vibrant mixed-use community.

New Epping’s strategic vision extends beyond the built landscape, embracing the opportunity to heal and enhance the natural environment. Perhaps most significantly, New Epping represents excellence in land use regeneration. The rehabilitation of the Edgar’s Creek Corridor at the heart of the project will become a sanctuary for the Growling Grass Frog, a federally protected, endangered species, demonstrating how thoughtful development can enhance rather than diminish natural ecosystems.

At Riverlee, we believe that true sustainability requires a holistic approach. By carefully considering the needs of our communities and actively incorporating their feedback, we’re creating built environments that not only meet today’s environmental standards but also set new benchmarks for the future. Our achievements to date demonstrate that when sustainability drives decision-making, the result is development and asset ownership that benefits both people within our communities and the planet.
