Construction commences on the new Northern Private Hospital

31 January 2022

The Northern Private Hospital is one step closer to serving Victorian residents in the northern region, with construction on the state’s newest hospital officially underway.

Located in New Epping’s seven-hectare health, wellness and knowledge precinct adjacent to the Northern Hospital, the Northern Private Hospital will deliver extensive medical, surgical, and mental health services to the northern region – currently the last major growth corridor in Victoria without a private hospital.

David Lee, Development Director at Riverlee, said that the vision for New Epping is to create a vibrant community in the northern suburbs, with a focus on wellness and sustainability.

“The development will play a huge role in meeting the healthcare and housing demands of this growing area, and the new Northern Private Hospital is an integral part of that,” Mr Lee

said.

“We are proud to be partnering with Ramsay Health Care to deliver this important project, as part of the New Epping development. The biggest reward will be seeing the positive impact that it will have on this growing region upon its completion – economically, environmentally and socially.”

Operated by Australia’s leading private hospital provider, Ramsay Health Care, the first stage will feature 75 beds, four theatres and a cardiac catheter laboratory. The building also allows for future expansion in Stage 2 to provide a total of 126 beds.

Ramsay Health Care Australia CEO Carmel Monaghan said Northern Private Hospital was designed to provide world-class patient care and offer an extensive range of health care services.

“Northern Private Hospital will offer a broad range of treatments to ensure the community has easy access to all the health services they need, complementing the existing offerings

available at the nearby Northern Hospital,” Ms Monaghan said.

Underpinned by a sustainable design and build, the hospital structure will include recycled materials and chilled beams for enhanced thermal comfort. It will incorporate solar power, energy efficient lighting, and fixtures, fittings and appliances designed for water conservation and energy efficiency.

Northern Private Hospital CEO, Kieron Martin, said the hospital will also embody Ramsay Health Care’s sustainability strategy to help create stronger communities, healthier people and a thriving planet.

“We’ve engaged an independent consultant to manage the sustainability design of Northern Private Hospital. These changes will ensure Northern Private is helping patients while also protecting our planet for future generations,” Mr Martin said.

Riverlee is proud to partner with Ramsay Health Care to deliver this much needed project to Melbourne’s north.

Stage 1 of the Northern Private is scheduled for completion in Q3 2023 and will be fully operational by Q1 2024.
